Who we are?

"A faithful family of God,
committed to proclaiming the
peace, hope, and love of
Jesus Christ to all!"

In 1868, our forefathers with little money came together and built this church.  Less than a year later all building debts were paid.  With the same spirit of determination they came together again in 1954 and excavated the basement by hand.  It is this determination, still possessed today, that has given us a house of worship for all.

The First United Church of Christ, in it's original building, is recognized as the oldest congregation in Plymouth. The Marshall County Historical Society declared it a landmark in 1983.  Today many of our members have grown up in this church, while several others are new to both the community and the church.  Regardless of our pasts, we have come together to form a strong family of faith.  This church is our spiritual home.  It is here that we worship and praise our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  It is in fellowship with Him and each other that we continue to grow and learn.  We invite you to consider this your spiritual home as well.

What we believe:

Authority of the Scriptures-

The Bible is the ultimate rule of faith and practice.

Doctrinal Freedom-

In each congregation there are different covenants and confessions of faith that are accepted.

Christian Unity-

We, as Christians, are brothers and sisters in Christ.

The Trinity-

God, the Creator, Christ and the Holy Spirit are one God.

God-

Acting in love, God is ever active in the world.

Jesus Christ-

God has come, in Christ, conquered sin and reconciled the world to His divine love.

Holy Spirit-

God has sent the Holy Spirit as His continuing presence and activity in the
world.

Church

The church consists of people, who are united in Christ through worship, work, and witness.

Salvation-

To all who have faith are promised Forgiveness, grace, and eternal life.

Bearing Witness-

Each of us must be a disciple, in word and deed.

Redefining Faith-

As God's word unfolds and conditions change, each generation is responsible
for re-thinking it's beliefs.

Serving Others-

Our mission is to establish God's rule in the world and justice for all.

All of our beliefs are summed up in the Statement of Faith. This statement is a testimony not a test of faith.

We believe in you, O God, Eternal Spirit,
God of our Savior Jesus Christ and our God,
and to your deeds we testify:

You call the worlds into being,
create persons in your own image,
and set before each one
the ways of life and death.

You seek in holy love to save all people
from aimlessness and sin.

You judge people and nations by your righteous will
declared through prophets and apostles.

In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth,
our crucified and risen Savior,
you have come to us
and shared our common lot,
conquering sin and death
and reconciling the world to yourself.

You bestow upon us your Holy Spirit,
creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ,
binding in covenant faithful people
of all ages, tongues and races.

You call us into your church
to accept the cost and joy of discipleship,
to be your servants in the service of others,
to proclaim the gospel to all the world
and resist in the powers of evil,
to share in Christ's baptism
and eat at his table,
to join him in his passion and victory.

You promise to all who trust you
forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace,
courage in the struggle for justice and peace,
your presence in trial and rejoicing,
and eternal life in your realm
which has no end.

Blessing and honor, glory and power
be unto you. Amen.
